Major Groundbreaking Wednesday [Greenlawn?]

Did you notice that this big money project glossed over
the possibility of human remains from Greenlawn Cemetery?

Officials from Indy Eleven and Keystone Group were joined Wednesday by state and city leaders at the groundbreaking for Eleven Park, a new development centered around a multi-purpose soccer stadium, which will serve as the new permanent home for the Indianapolis men's and women's soccer teams.

Demolition is already set to begin immediately and continue over the next few months, according to Indy Eleven.

Upon completion, the stadium is expected to seat 20,000 people and include more than 600 apartments, 205,000 square feet of office space, 197,000 square feet of retail space alongside restaurants, hotels, green space and more.

Officials said they hope building on what they called an "underutilized portion" of downtown will make a new mark on Indianapolis.

Memorial Weekend: Black Troops In WW2

As the nation celebrates Memorial Day, let's remember some unfinished business.

Most Americans think of WW2 as the great triumph of democracy over evil, but that

U.S. military had a few evils of its own. Read about the treatment of black soldiers

and sailors in this 24-page article in our library.

Greenlawn Still Making News

GSMC representatives were among about 100 city residents in the audience at the Biltwell Event Center Tuesday evening to get the latest update on the Henry Street Bridge project.
A prominent part of the presentation was about plans to handle
possible human remains from Greenlawn Cemetery.
Everything from the right side of the sketch below to Kentucky Avenue
goes through the Greenlawn site, so how can they NOT find remains.
This meeting did not even cover the soccer stadium, which will also be in the Cemetery area.
GSMC plans to follow these projects closely to make sure the contractors do it right!

Pollard-Murphy-Heller Family Collection Added

We just added the below collection of a Warren Township family.
Shirley's children sent us a great boxful of materials
that included lots of Warren Central High School items.
We were surprised to discover that Shirley is buried right here in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Kinda like one of the gang!

We have a good space for YOUR family, too!
