Interesting Teacher Document

While working on some Lawrence Township material,
we came across this teacher's job application.
Wouldn't you like to find this for one of your folks?
Talk about a rich genealogy treasure!

Marion County Population January 1941

We found this interesting document among some recent donations.
It displays the overall Marion County population by township
and also the school enrollment of the same townships.

Just goes to show how small this county was on the verge of World War 2.

Lawrence Township Materials Donated

The Lawrence Township Schools donated a group of township ledgers
and other documents to GSMC last week,
and we have been organizing them in a genealogical manner.
Look for Lawrence Township data to appear on our website in the near future.
If you are interested in Lawrence Township, you can lend a hand.

Greenlawn Burials Over 1,000!!

GSMC volunteers have been hard at work lately,
and this week they drove the Greenlawn burials list past a thousand and up to 1,075.
They had to interpret numerous documents, lists, and notes to cull accurate data,
not only to add burials but to add more details to many existing individuals.
We are continuing to add data and could use more volunteers.
Give us a call or email if you have some time. Thanks.

We have the best Greenlawn resource in the country;
take a look at our site.

Mildred Rebennack Program A Winner!

We heard from a real Rosie the Riveter on Saturday
and everyone enjoyed Mildred's upbeat story of breaking a few barriers.
GSMC also recognized her as our newest Genealogy Angel.
An altogether great session!

Announcing The Greenlawn Task Force, July 5

Whereas, there have been two major construction projects announced this year for the location of the former Greenlawn Cemetery.
And whereas, we expect that additional burials will come to light as part of those projects.
Therefore, GSMC announces the Greenlawn Cemetery Task Force project.
This will be a major effort to collect and put FREE online as much data as we can find and organize about this huge 19th century burial site in the heart of Indianapolis.
GSMC did a small partial burial list about 20 years ago using available sources. This project will be a major upgrade with many additional burials, corrections, and resource materials.

If you can volunteer some time and expertise,
come to our first session at the GSMC Library at Memorial Park
on Wednesday, July 5th, 11am to 2pm.
