More then One D-Day 80-Years Ago

During all the hoopla soon about the 80-year anniversary of Normandy,
and all our ancestors and relatives who fought there,
let's not forget that 9-days later in the Pacific theater another huge invasion force of
Navy, Army, and Marine Americans invaded Saipan in the Marianas.
That victory enabled B-29 bombers to destroy Japan and make an invasion there redundant.

Memory Lane: Were You There?

This holiday photo was taken during the pitch-in when we were still at Crown Hill.
Notice how cramped we were in the basement of the Waiting Station.

Society Begins Indexing of 1871 Enumeration

State law in the late 1800's said each school district in the state
had to count prospective parents and children every year.
We have scanned lists of Indianapolis Public Schools
from 1871 through 1888, with only 1888 being indexed.
We are now starting to index the 178 pages of 1871.
We are seeking volunteers to work on this project during our Wednesday library days.
Give us a call or email or just drop by.
This will be a valuable family resource. Thanks.

Indianapolis War of 1812 Blockhouse?

This reference to a military blockhouse in the Indianapolis area is a new one on us.
It's in Isaac Richardson's 1812 pension file on Fold3.
Does anyone have any additional details about this?
