Black Paratroops WW2

As you may know, about 80% of the Army personnel records from WW2
were destroyed at the National Archives in 1973.
This book we recently added to our library may help
with a few African American Army soldiers.

Document Your African American Lineage

If you have gone to a lot of effort (or plan to!),
you might want to get your work recorded in this group.
Lineage groups are an excellent way to connect with other relatives
or to put your work out there for others to find.
Go to sdusmp.org and see if you fit.

GSMC Adds 92 New School Files

Between February 18, 1956, and May 27, 1961, every other Saturday the Indianapolis News published a series of full-page photo sketches of Marion County elementary schools.
The photo below of IPS School 6 is a typical sample.
During that period the newspaper profiled 92 schools from both
the Indianapolis Public Schools and the township schools.
We have extracted these pages and added them to our school files in the Members 1 and 2 sections.
A full list of these buildings is shown below. Could your family be part of this group?

Join Johnson Co. Public Library and CIDIG June 17

On Saturday, June 17th join Angela Guntz from the Central Indiana DNA Interest Group and explore DNA Painter. DNA Painter has many free tools that will help you answer some of your DNA questions including ways to visualize your direct family line, predict relationships, calculate the probability of how a match might fit in your tree and ways mapping segments of DNA to specific ancestors. Join us and learn how to add another skillset to your DNA toolbox.

After the program, Angela will answer questions on genetic genealogy subjects. Attendees are encouraged to share their experiences using DNA testing in their genealogical research.

Your Folks Have Early Businesses?

We just added this interesting book to our library collection.
It contains dozens of photos and sketches of early stores, markets, peddlers,
and other small proprietors, along with lots of explanatory captions.
Maybe you can use some to show how your family made a living.
C'mon down!

You Are An Historian, Too.

Every genealogist has to be an historian. All those ancestors had to live somewhere sometime.
If you are Marion County focused, you might check out the MCHS at mchsindy.org.
