Great Donation From IHS

Last Friday we received a nice materials donation from the Indiana Historical Society.
We will be processing these into our library collection on Wednesday.
If you are a librarian type, come on down and
we will generously allow you to get in on this this task.
Hey, we're just those kind of folks!

Archives Update--Concrete!

This past Friday the Archives site was showing some poured concrete pillars.
Evidently site prep is winding down
and the actual building is starting to go up.
We're going to hold off on scheduling tours,
because you just never know, do ya?

Society Begins Indexing of 1871 Enumeration

State law in the late 1800's said each school district in the state
had to count prospective parents and children every year.
We have scanned lists of Indianapolis Public Schools
from 1871 through 1888, with only 1888 being indexed.
We are now starting to index the 178 pages of 1871.
We are seeking volunteers to work on this project during our Wednesday library days.
Give us a call or email or just drop by.
This will be a valuable family resource. Thanks.

Indianapolis War of 1812 Blockhouse?

This reference to a military blockhouse in the Indianapolis area is a new one on us.
It's in Isaac Richardson's 1812 pension file on Fold3.
Does anyone have any additional details about this?

Outstanding Plat Map Donation

Marion County Historian (and GSMC Director) Steve Barnett with Sue Barnett
delivered this ca1890 Marion County Plat Map to our library Wednesday.
The map was a gift of Doris King of the American Village Lincoln Lodge #237.
She wanted Steve to find it a good home--and here we are!
Thanks to Steve and Doris for this great resource.
Researchers are invited to come in a take a look.
