Looking for William?

We are indexing the August Denier Headstone Ledger 2,
and Wednesday we encountered the below entry for William Wilson.
Knowing the normal difficulty with Irish immigrants,
we wondered if someone might be looking for him.
On the 1860 Indy census he is living in the Ray House Hotel and is a railroad employee.
Found Johanna Glavin on Find-A-Grave in Holy Cross Cemetery,
but not Josephine or William.
Where to from here??

German Resources Upgrade

We had our German materials in a file cabinet,
which was not at all convenient to use.

And, so, we migrated them to this nice shelf unit,
and researchers can walk right up and find their folks.

Marion County's Really First Cemetery

The first known burials in what is now Marion County, Indiana,
happened a L-O-N-G time ago.
They were only discovered, though, in the 1930's,
when they were building the power plant down in Perry Township.
Take a look at our newest cemetery entry and read all about it for yourself.

Ever Heard of Eastman Hospital?

We found a clue that there was a little-known hospital in downtown Indy in the early 1900's.
Our library volunteer Ruth Hans, a retired Indianapolis librarian,
accepted the task of chasing down this facility.
She turned in her report on Wednesday and it is now in our Hospital library section.
Great job, Ruth; thanks much!

Genealogies Growing

Our genealogies section outgrew the place where we had it,
so we had to clear a larger shelf location [see below].

We moved the collection, improved it a bit, and reopened for business.
Take a look on our website for your surnames or just drop by and browse.

Much Better!!

Newest Life Member...Yay!

Judith Baumgarner of Eugene, OR, recently changed

her longtime yearly membership to a Lifetime Subscription.

Thanks, Judi, for this upgrade and we hope we can meet your expectations.
Our Supporting Members are critical to our all-volunteer society.
As an example, in 2024 just our internet service cost us $1,383,
and all of that was covered by memberships and donations.
Wish us luck as we charge into the future and add many more Marion County resources.
