Jewish Name Patterns Zoom Feb. 13, 2 pm

JEWISH NAMES WITH WARREN BLATT

The Northeast Indiana Jewish Genealogy Society is excited to welcome genealogist, Warren Blatt, for two free virtual programs on Sunday, February 13th, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The afternoon will begin with “Jewish Given Names,” an introduction to Jewish first names, focusing on practical issues for genealogical research. Learn why “Mordechai Yehuda” is also “Mortka Leib” is also “Max”. Our ancestors each had many different given names and nicknames, in various languages and alphabets, making Jewish genealogical research difficult.

This presentation will address the history and patterns of Jewish first names, and how to recognize ancestors' names in genealogical sources. Beginning at 3:30 p.m., Mr. Blatt will continue with “Jewish Surnames,” their origins, types, and etymology.

Registration is required to attend this free virtual program. The link can be found at the NEIJGS website at www.NEIndianaJGS.org/upcoming-events/. Thanks to the Harry W. Salon Foundation, the Louis and Anne B. Schneider Foundation, and the Allen County Public Library Genealogy Center for their support.

Additional information about the NEIJGS can be found on our website at www.NEIndianaJGS.org, or our Facebook Page, https://www.facebook.com/NEIndianaJGS/. Contact Betsy Gephart at vp@NEIndianaJGS.org for more information.
