National Archives Goes AI

[Recent  Email sent out by National Archives]

AI and the Revolutionary War Pension Files

We are excited to announce that through a partnership with FamilySearch, AI extracted text for all 2,322,137 pages of the Case Files of Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Applications Based on Revolutionary War Service, ca. 1800 - ca. 1912 is now available in the National Archives Catalog.

FamilySearch used 30,000 pages of pensions transcribed by our Citizen Archivists to teach their AI language model how to transcribe this 19th Century cursive writing.  The Partner Contributed transcriptions generated by their AI language model for the entire series will now be available as Extracted Text in the National Archives Catalog.

Interested In Indiana Canals?

The Canal Era was an interesting part of the state's history, and you can explore it today. Visit the website of the Canal Society here:

And visit many of the records of the people here on our website Research Section 3:
We digitized thousands  of original pay and other business materials in the Indiana State Archives.
Put these two sites together and maybe find your people!!

Oh Yeah...if you want to index a few original records, let us know.
We will give you full credit and researchers will be very grateful.
Give us a call somehow.

Great New Marriage Resource Added

Thanks to our "SuperVolunteerCorps" GSMC has digitized
the first three microfilm rolls of Marion County marriage records.

To find specific records you should use the WPA Marriage Indexes

found on Ancestry and various other sites.

You should look at the two far right columns (see below) to find the Book and Page.

Our collection only has books 1-2-3.

If you do everything right, you should find an entry like this one.
Happy Hunting!!

Second and Third Wednesdays?

We still need a volunteer for both the 2nd and 3rd Wednesdays.
Can you spare a 11am to 3pm shift on one of those days?
We have a lot of materials to be scanned and loaded
onto our website to help researchers find their family members.
Give us a call or email. Thanks.

A Names Intensive Indy Resource

We just added this 550-page book of club, lodge, government,
and other member lists to our website in Research Section 3.
If any of your folks belonged to an organization in 1898-1899,
there's a good chance they are in this little jewel.
The actual book is on the shelf in our library.

Great New War of 1812 Book Added

If you have any 1812 veteran ancestors in the family,
you should visit our library and go through this 270 page resource.
Published by National Geographic in 2012,
it focuses on the naval aspects of that war.
[I used it to enhance my veteran's service for the Battle of Lake Erie.]
There are also great sections on Old Ironsides and the Star Spangled Banner,
and of course lots of material on the land war.

Good Naturalizations Worksheet

GSMC picked up this helpful flyer at the Indiana State Archives
that may help you find and use some Indiana naturalization records.
